A spirit of adventure characterizes the thinking at Stumpy Gully not only with its winemaking but also with the viticulture combining traditional with modern innovative techniques. It is a winery that is not afraid to experiment, believing that the centuries old art of winemaking is a continuing journey of development, refinement and the mastery of your own individual region’s parameters. Rather than sticking to the region’s formula and focussing on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir they have planted 10 different varieties and make at least 12 different styles of wines under their Stumpy Gully label.
Stumpy Gully’s wines have been lauded at international, local and interstate wine shows. Of particular note was the 2007 Concours des Vins Trophy for Best Aromatic White Wine awarded to the 2007 Sauvignon Blanc, the “People’s Choice Trophy Cool Climate Wine Show Red Hill 2004 for the 2003 “Red Dog Red’, the Trophy Best Bordeaux Style Murrumbateman Cool Climate Wine Show 2002; Gold Medal Stumpy Gully for the 2003 Pinot Noir Red Hill Cool Climate Wine Show 2005, Silver Medal for the Stumpy Gully 2004 Pinot Noir, Red Hill Cool Climate Wine Show 2005, Peoples Choice Trophy Best Red at the International Wine Exhibition Shanghai for the Peninsula Panorama 2004 Shiraz.
