welcome
Victoria's Mornington Peninsula region, just under one hour's drive south of the Melbourne CBD, with surfing and swimming bays on either side, is not only a holiday and golfing mecca for local and international tourists, but one of Australia's most renowned wine regions. With over 174 vineyards and over 80 wineries nestled in the narrow peninsula, it has earned the reputation as having more wineries per kilometer than any other wine region in Australia: a haven for fine boutique wineries.
The region is now recognised as one of Australia's leading producers of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with some of the country's most recognised and iconic brands coming from here. Mornington Peninsula is also the leading Australian producer of Pinot Gris and Grigio, and is widely acknowledged as being responsible for the significant development, and now, ever growing popularity of this grape in both French and Italian styles.
But it doesn't end here. With its cool / temperate coastal climate, distinct sub-regions, each with its own soils, and microclimates, the region now produces a diverse range of grape varieties. More recently the area has been recognised by writers such as James Halliday as producing excellent Shiraz, a grape previously thought difficult to ripen here, together with some fine examples of Sauvignon Blanc. The area boasts some of Victoria's finest regional restaurants, as well as clubs and bars that cater to a wide variety of age groups and atmospheres, depending on your mood, making it one of Australia's leading wine and food regions.
